Bring the Whole Crew (Groups!)

WHAT WE OFFER

Adventures are better shared

Getting the group together should be the fun part.

Of course, someone still has to organise the accommodation, chase the numbers, answer the questions, plan what everyone is doing and somehow know where 30 people are having dinner on Saturday night.

Whether you volunteered or were lovingly voluntold, you don't have to do it all yourself. At Austin, we love helping groups gather and connect. From caravan and motor vehicle clubs to sporting teams, family gatherings and special-interest groups, we'll work with you to make staying — and exploring — a little easier.

Why stay at Austin?

A real person to help

Our Gatherings & Connections Officer can work with your organiser before and during the stay, helping with the practical bits, ideas and local connections.

Stay together

Cabins, powered sites and unpowered sites give us flexibility for groups travelling and staying in different ways.

We'll help with the logistics

Tell us about your group, your rigs and what you need, and we'll work with you on the details.

Spaces to gather

BBQs, our camp kitchen and gathering spaces give you somewhere to catch up without everyone disappearing to their own accommodation.

Local connections

Looking for a group meal, activity, attraction or something a little different? Our Gatherings & Connections team can help with suggestions and, where we can, make the connection.

Planning a club run? Talk to Frank

Particularly for motor vehicle clubs. Tell us what you're driving, how far you'd like to go and how everyone feels about dirt. Frank probably knows a road.

You're allowed to enjoy it too.
Because the person holding the clipboard deserves to have some fun too.

Bring your people. We'll help you find the adventure.

And if you were the one who got voluntold to organise the whole thing?

We might even help you look like you volunteered.

The best adventures are the ones you share

There's something different about exploring somewhere with your people.

The group photo. The shared experience. The unexpected stop everyone loved. The lunch that ran longer than planned. The person who took a wrong turn and will never be allowed to forget it.
Those are the stories that make it home with you.

Whether you're travelling with a motor vehicle club, caravan club, sporting group, family gathering, special-interest group or simply a collection of people who enjoy adventuring together, Tamworth and the surrounding region give you plenty to discover.

Austin Tourist Park makes a pretty good place to start.

Of course, travelling with a group usually means someone has to organise it.

Perhaps you enthusiastically volunteered. Perhaps you were lovingly voluntold.

Either way, you've suddenly become the person expected to know where everyone's staying, what you're doing tomorrow, where you're having lunch and whether the place someone found online can actually accommodate 27 people arriving at once.

Good news. You don't have to work it all out alone.

Meet Jess! Your adventure accomplice

At Austin, our Gatherings & Connections Officer is here to help groups do exactly that — gather and connect. And that doesn't stop once we've helped you organise your stay. Tell us about your group.

What brings you together? What are you interested in? How many people are coming? How far would you like to travel?

Do you want history, art, food, scenery, music, machinery, photography or simply somewhere everyone can sit together and have a good time?

We can help suggest experiences that suit your group and, where we have the local connection, help make the connection too.

Want to know whether an attraction can accommodate the whole group? Looking for somewhere suitable for lunch? Planning a drive for a motor vehicle club? Want to organise something a little different?

Have a chat with us. Because if you've been voluntold to organise the weekend, the least we can do is help you enjoy some of it.

Amenities

Nobody wants to trek halfway across a caravan park when nature calls. With four amenities areas located around Austin Tourist Park, nowhere in the park is more than approximately 50 metres from an amenities block.

Our main amenities area includes separate men's and ladies' toilets and showers, as well as a family bathroom and our laundry. Around the park you'll also find additional men's and ladies' amenities and a small ensuite-style block with four individual bathrooms. Some facilities may not always be open, depending on park operations and works underway.

If you've got particular accessibility or bathroom requirements, have a chat with us before you arrive so we can help identify the most suitable accommodation or site location for you.

Camp Kitchen image

Camp Kitchen & BBQs

Sometimes dinner needs to be an event.
Other times it needs to be sausages on the BBQ and done.

Our camp kitchen gives caravan and camping guests a handy place to prepare a meal without having to unpack half the van. You'll find a fridge, freezer and microwave, along with an assortment of crockery and cutlery and two picnic tables for sitting down together. The camp kitchen is also home to one of the park's three BBQs, with two more BBQs located elsewhere around Austin.

So whether you're cooking breakfast before heading out for the day or finishing an adventure with a relaxed BBQ dinner, there are options around the park.

Laundry image

Laundry

BECAUSE ADVENTURES GET MESSY

Road trips have a remarkable ability to generate washing.  Our guest laundry has three washing machines and two gas dryers, along with an iron, ironing board and nearby clotheslines.

The gas dryers are worth knowing about too...they heat quickly and can get the washing dry faster, which is rather useful when you don't want tomorrow's adventure to involve waiting for socks.

Laundry powder is available from the office if you've run out or forgotten to pack it. And the laundry is accessible 24 hours a day. Because sometimes you're staying with us for a week and doing the sensible holiday washing. And sometimes you're a parent dealing with a spectacular mess at 2am. We've got you.

Pool image

A Dip in the Pool

After a day exploring Tamworth — or instead of exploring Tamworth — there's always the pool.

Our fenced outdoor swimming pool has seating and some shade around the pool area, plus a separate children's wading pool for our smaller swimmers.

There are also pool games available for a little extra fun.

There's no rigid “everybody out, the pool is closed” time. Guests can enjoy the pool when it suits, provided everyone is considerate of the people staying and living around them.

So yes, an evening swim is perfectly fine.

And if you decide to skinny dip at midnight, just try not to wake the residents. What happens on holidays stays on holidays!

Playground image

Playground

Playground & space to play

Sometimes adventures happen without leaving Austin.

Our playground gives younger guests somewhere to climb, play and make new friends, while our pedal carts have a habit of becoming popular with considerably more than one age group.

There's also open space around the park to enjoy between adventures.

Our Village Green is developing into a gathering and events space and is already used for some of the activities and special events we hold throughout the year.

Keep an eye on what's happening while you're staying. You never quite know what might be going on at Austin.

Powered Sites image
Powered Sites
Powered Sites

Powered sites

Every one of our powered caravan and camping sites has access to power, water and sullage, making it easy to settle in and get your setup sorted.

A small number of sites also have concrete slabs.

Site sizes and layouts vary, so if you've got a larger rig, a particular setup or something specific you need from your site, tell us when you're booking.

Knowing what you're travelling in helps us find the best fit.

Wi-Fi image
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi

Stay connected... mostly

Let's talk about Wi-Fi. Because we'd rather tell you how it actually is. We currently have two areas within Austin Tourist Park where we're confident of a good Wi-Fi signal.

Beyond those areas, reception varies depending on where you're staying in the park. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it's not. Sometimes technology apparently has other ideas.

If reliable Wi-Fi is particularly important during your stay, tell us when you're booking. We can explain where our strongest coverage is and help you choose accordingly where availability allows. And yes — improving connectivity around the park remains on our list.

EV Charging image

Charge up for the next adventure

Travelling electric? Austin Tourist Park has two operational EV charging points, so you can recharge your electric vehicle while you're staying with us.

Ask our team about using the chargers when you arrive, or let us know you're travelling with an EV when you book. One less thing to organise while you're on the road.

The Practical Stuff image

The Practical Stuff

The practical stuff

There are a few facilities nobody gets particularly excited about until they need them. We have those too. There's an onsite dump point for caravan and motorhome travellers, and LPG Swap'n'Go is available when the gas bottle is getting suspiciously light.

You'll also find clotheslines around the laundry area, BBQs around the park and our team in the office when you need some local information, directions or help working something out.

Practical? Absolutely. But practical makes travelling easier.

Accessibility image
Accessibility
Accessibility

Accessibility & individual needs

No two travellers need exactly the same thing.

Rather than making broad promises about accessibility that may not suit your individual circumstances, we'd prefer to have a conversation. If you have mobility, accessibility or other specific requirements, contact our team before booking.

Tell us what you need — access, bathroom facilities, parking, distances, site location or something else — and we'll give you honest information about what's available so you can decide whether Austin will work for you. If we can help, we will.

Little Things image
Little Things
Little Things

Little things that make a difference

We reckon travelling and caring for the places we live and visit can go hand in hand. Around Austin, we separate waste through our four-bin system, helping divert recycling and eligible containers from general waste.

Used guest soaps don't simply head for landfill either. Through Soap Aid, they can be collected and recycled into new soap, supporting better hygiene while reducing waste.

We also find new homes for useful things wherever we can. Glass jars, sauce bottles, clothing and other items left behind can be passed through local community connections rather than simply being thrown away. They're not enormous gestures. They're lots of little ones. And over time, little things add up.

ATTRACTIONS

Do Tamworth together

You don't necessarily need to travel far to find something worth doing as a group.

Tamworth has plenty of attractions that become even better when they're shared.

Take the group on the road

Tamworth makes a great base for exploring the wider region, but travelling as a group changes the equation a little.

Thirty people don't move quite as quickly as two.

Someone needs the toilet. Someone else wants coffee. Someone is still talking to the person in the museum gift shop.

And someone definitely didn't hear what time everyone was supposed to be back at the cars.

So rather than trying to cram everything into one enormous day, choose an adventure and give yourselves time to enjoy it.

Look up image
Look up

Look up

For something completely different, consider the Tamworth Regional Astronomy Centre.

There's something rather wonderful about a group of people standing together looking considerably further afield than Tamworth.

For clubs, families, students and special-interest groups, an astronomy experience can give everyone something to discover together — and plenty to talk about afterwards.

Ask us about current opening, session and group options before building it into your plans.

FOR THE MOTOR MINDED

Something for the motorcycle enthusiasts

Tamworth's Powerhouse Motorcycle Museum is an obvious stop for motorcycle enthusiasts, but you certainly don't need to arrive on two wheels to enjoy it.

Its collection of motorcycles makes it a great option for motor clubs, motoring enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the engineering, history and stories behind the machines.

And if your group happens to be a motor club...

We'll get to Frank shortly.

See Tamworth from another angle image

See Tamworth from another angle

With Tamworth's new Skywalk opening, there's another way to take in the city and surrounding landscape together.

Once it's operating, we'll be keeping a close eye on the best ways for groups to experience it, including access, timing and practicalities.

Ask us what's happening when you're planning your stay.

And don't forget Oxley Scenic Lookout.

Our tip is to head up around 10–15 minutes before sunset.

A little cloud can make the colours even better, and sometimes the best show happens just after the sun disappears.

Which gives us another idea...

Barraba — art & country scenery image
Barraba — art & country scenery

Barraba — art & country scenery

BARRABA

Art & Country Scenery

Head north-west towards Barraba for a day built around art, photography and country-town exploring. Start with The Water Diviner, the enormous silo mural that has become one of the region's most recognisable pieces of public art. Then get out and wander.

There's street art and public art to discover around Barraba, heritage buildings, galleries and plenty of country scenery for photographers. Make time for morning tea or lunch rather than trying to rush everyone back into the vehicles.

Depending on your group's interests and how much time you've got, the journey itself can become part of the adventure too. Particularly if Frank gets involved.

Gunnedah — art, history & big views image
Gunnedah — art, history & big views

Gunnedah — art, history & big views

Head west towards Gunnedah and you've got another completely different day.

Explore the town's silo art, water tower murals, street art and sculptures, or spend some time at the Gunnedah Rural Museum discovering its enormous collection of machinery, vehicles, household items and memories from another era.

Then head for one of Gunnedah's lookouts and enjoy the view over the town or across the Liverpool Plains.

This adventure works particularly well because you can shape it around the group.

Photography group?

Spend longer hunting down the art and chasing the views.

History group?

Give yourselves more time at the museum.

Social group?

Perhaps lunch is the main event and everything else simply happens around it.

There isn't one correct itinerary.

That's rather the point.

Do something a little different

Not every memorable group experience needs an admission ticket.

Once, we organised a pizza lookout party
for a couple staying with us as part of a promotional tour.

Simple idea. Good pizza. Cracking view. Right time of day.

Suddenly dinner became an experience.

We can do that thinking for groups too.

Perhaps it's a sunset picnic. Maybe it's somewhere interesting for morning tea. Perhaps there's a local business, attraction or community organisation that would fit beautifully with what your group is interested in. This is where having local connections helps.

Tell our Gatherings & Connections team what you're imagining — even if the idea isn't completely formed yet. Sometimes the best group adventures aren't found on an attractions list.

[Group] Do something a little different image

Got a motor club?

Talk to Frank.

This is where things can get interesting. Frank has been exploring the roads around Tamworth, the New England and North West for more than 40 years.

He knows the highways. He also knows plenty of roads that don't feature quite so prominently in the usual touring guides. We call them Frank Roads.

If you're organising a motor vehicle club run, come and have a chat.

Tell us what you're driving, approximately how far you'd like to travel, what you'd like to see and — importantly — how everybody feels about dirt.

Classic cars wanting good sealed roads? Different conversation.

Four-wheel-drive group looking for something more adventurous? Different conversation again.

A social motoring club that mostly wants a beautiful drive and somewhere cracking for lunch? We can work with that too.

Some Frank Roads are easy scenic alternatives.

Some are unsealed. Some are narrow or winding. And some come with Frank descriptions such as “it's only narrow for a bit”, which we'll help translate before anyone sets off.

Road conditions can change, particularly after wet weather, so we'll always encourage you to check the route and conditions before the group heads out.

The goal isn't to find the fastest road. It's to find the right road for your group.

[Group] Got a motor club? Talk to Frank. image

Add a little friendly competition

Want to make an ordinary outing considerably more entertaining?
Give everyone a challenge.

See who can find the most pieces of street art in Barraba.

Compare hands at Hands of Fame Park.

Run a photography challenge while you're exploring Gunnedah.

See who gets the best sunset photo from Oxley Lookout.

Hunt down Tamworth's Big Things.

Or create a challenge based around whatever brought your group together in the first place.

It doesn't need to be serious. In fact, it's probably better if it isn't.

A little friendly competition has a habit of producing some very good stories.

FAQs

Questions

Most visitors ask the same things. We've answered them here for you.

What are some good attractions for groups in Tamworth?

It depends very much on the interests of your group.

The Big Golden Guitar and Tamworth's country music attractions are obvious places to start, while the Tamworth Powerstation Museum, Tamworth Regional Astronomy Centre and Powerhouse Motorcycle Museum can be particularly good for special-interest groups.

Oxley Scenic Lookout and outdoor attractions can also work well when you're looking for something relaxed that everyone can experience together.

Can Austin Tourist Park help organise group activities?

Yes.

Our Gatherings & Connections Officer can help with ideas for activities and experiences that suit your group and, where possible, help make local connections.

Tell us what you're interested in, how many people you've got and what sort of experience you're hoping for.

We may already know just the person to talk to.

Can you help us plan a group drive from Tamworth?

Absolutely.

This can be particularly useful for motor vehicle clubs.

Tell us what you're driving, how far you'd like to travel, whether the group is comfortable with unsealed roads and what sort of stops you'd like along the way.

We'll help with ideas.

And Frank may know a road.

Actually, Frank almost certainly knows a road.

What are some good day trips for groups from Tamworth?

Barraba works particularly well for groups interested in art, photography and country towns, while Gunnedah offers a mix of public art, museums, history and lookouts.

Other destinations around the Tamworth region may suit your group better depending on its interests, so talk to our Gatherings & Connections Officer before deciding.

Can you suggest somewhere for our group to eat?

Yes.

Group dining often needs a little more planning than simply choosing somewhere on the day, particularly when you've got a larger number of people or dietary requirements to consider.

Tell us what you're looking for and our Gatherings & Connections team can suggest options and, where we have the connection, help you get in touch with the right people.

Our group organiser has no idea what to plan. Can you help?

Definitely.

In fact, that's one of our favourite conversations.

You don't need to arrive with a completed itinerary.

Tell us about your group, what people enjoy, what you've already got planned and how much free time you're trying to fill.

We'll start there.

You've reminded everyone what time they're leaving. Twice.

You've found somewhere for dinner and somehow become responsible for whether it's going to rain next Saturday.

Whether you volunteered for the job or were thoroughly voluntold, organising a group takes work.

Let our Gatherings & Connections Officer help with the local knowledge, suggestions and connections that can make the adventure easier to organise.
